My Favorite Baby Brands

It seems like yesterday that I was organizing my baby registry. There are so many fun things to choose and lots of items that will make life with a new baby more manageable. With pregnant friends, family members, and coworkers asking me for tips, I decided to make a list of my favorites baby brands.

Baby Registry

1. My Skip Hop Signature Diaper Bag was everything! Would you believe that I only had one diaper bag and that Hubby loved it too! The Skip Hop diaper bags not only come with ample pockets, a diaper pad and detachable zip pouch, but are also designed to secure to your stroller handles for easy maneuvering. Skip Hop products grow with your child. My little guy enjoys mealtime with his Skip Hop Zoo dining ware and flying overseas was fun with his Skip Hop Zoo rolling luggage.

2. Speaking of strollers...our Hauck Malibu All in One was brilliant for car seat, baby carrier, bassinet, and toddler upright transport. The stroller even comes with a diaper caddy. The light aluminum frame is easy to fold and the five point safety harness and swivel wheel locks make it a winner. Hauck accessories are designed to keep your little bundle safe and cozy when you're on the go.

3. A friend surprised us with a set of Dr. Brown's Baby Bottles. Designed by a physician, these bottles allow for vacuum free feeding to reduce colic. Dr. Brown's accessories help make nursing and   feeding easier for mommy and baby.

4. Our First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Tub was perfect for our baby's first bath and through the toddler years. The mesh sling attachment is padded to keep your little one safe and secure. As he grows, the ergonomic design makes bath time easy. First Years products are smartly designed for the challenges of bringing up baby. The Take & Toss Spill-Proof Straw Cups are great for the early years. (Note: straws help reduce dental cavity risk because they prevent pooling.)

5. I've lost count of the many Fisher-Price items that we've collected. Our Luv You Zoo High Chair was super easy to clean and kept our little guy comfy and entertained for hours. Here's a similar style. Their smartly designed toys are great for your child's development and you may remember from older posts that the Crawl Around Car is another one of my favorites.

6. Carter's Zip-Up Sleep & Play was a staple in our first little wardrobe. When it comes to baby clothes, the softness of Carter's is wonderful. There are so many different designs to suit your baby's budding personality. Whether it's onesies, jumpsuits, or 3-piece sets, you're sure to dress to impress with Carter's.

7. The Baby Bjorn Carrier suited us during travel and also at home. I really liked that Hubby was able to cradle our son with ease on short trips to the market or just a bit of fresh air. Known best for the carrier, Baby Bjorn makes many other products to help you in your journey as parents.

Parenting is a process, but success is a product of preparation. What items are on your list for baby?

3 Fun Things to do in Rome

My husband and I have been vacationing in Europe for a decade and many of our destinations not only have great historical significance but personal importance as well. Macedonia neighboring Serbia even has its own tale in our house (read more about the origin of our son's nicknames in the post The World is Mine). This year, Hubby and I snuck away for a weekend in Rome, the Eternal City. There was so much beauty, art, culture, and history to take in that I don't know where to start. Here are a few highlights from our fun trip!

The Colosseum

Our stay at Hotel Coloseum was excellent in hospitality and service (use CODE: mycolosseum for a discount on their best rate) and the complimentary breakfast was a great start to our day. Located at the center of the city, the hotel is just a five minute walk from the main train station, Termini, and steps from the brilliant historical landmark Colosseo, the biggest amphitheater built by the Roman Empire and famous host of the Gladiator contests. Damaged by earthquakes and fires, the Colosseo has been preserved for the world to see.

Of course Hubby booked us tickets to see AS Roma play at Stadio Olimpico. The largest sports facility in Rome, the stadium was the home of the 1960 Summer Olympics. Renovated several times, it hosted the 1990 FIFA World Cup and maintains its historic Italian beauty and authenticity with marble Roman statues along the perimeter. Make time to arrive early enough for an espresso or at one of the local pubs near the stadium before the fans start crowding.

A backdrop in many popular films from Roman Holiday to The Talented Mr. Ripley and a busy attraction for tourists and locals, Piazza di Spagna or The Spanish Steps is a must see when you visit Rome. The famous steps ascend to the church Trinita dei Monti and lead down to the monumental shopping plaza housing the world's top designer brands. It's also walking distance to the famous Trevi Fountain.

On the piazza or at a restaurant nestled away from the tourist scene, enjoying Italian cuisine is a huge part of a trip to the special city of Rome. Pizza, pasta, gelato, espresso and more await you! Don't mind the calories, just enjoy and work off the evidence as you walk around town.

The Vatican City is a magical place and not just for art lovers, history connoisseurs, and religion experts! The many galleries of paintings, sculptures, and murals will captivate you as you ascend to the Sistine Chapel to witness the greatness of Michelangelo. I can say I've seen it twice and I would return tomorrow just to take another look. To avoid long lines, book tickets online and purchase a guided tour with quick entry to St. Peter's Basilica. Our Roman holiday was just what we needed for inspiration in the New Year.

Have you booked your tickets to Rome?

Guess Leland Lace-Up Wedge Winter Boots

Guess Leland Lace-Up Boots

If you follow my Instagram, you know that I like to post what my toes are sporting. Probably because I love shoes and also because they don't require hair and makeup detail. Lol! Anyway, my new Guess Leland Lace-Up Boots just made their debut on my IG and they're 50% off! The warm fuzzy faux fur collar is super cozy and the wedge heel gives the perfect boost! I wore them on our 24 hour overseas travel pattern without complaint. Grab a pair in black or brown fatigue just in time for Christmas.

What's your favorite boot for winter?

Ok, ok, not to interrupt the holiday cheer but the New Year is just around the corner and we all know that fitness is at the top of our list of resolutions. Bele Mak Kocke | White Poppy Squares

White Poppy Squares Recipe

One of the first things to greet you when you arrive in Serbia is the aroma of delicious baked goods. The Serbian kitchen has deep roots in the Turkish Empire and their extensive history has embellished their cuisine with a vast range of tasty meats, pickled delicacies, and of course sweets. Today, my sister-in-law prepared Bele Mak Kocke, a sugar coated dessert that is perfect for the festive holiday season.

  • 2 Cups of Sugar
  • 3 Cups of Flour
  • 1 Packet of Yeast
  • 1/2 Cup of Poppy Seeds. The poppy adds flavor and my sister-in-law recommends more than less.
  • 1/2 Cup of Oil
  • 2 Cups of Milk
  • Powdered Sugar

1. Mix sugar, flour, yeast, poppy, oil, and milk.
2. Pour mix into cake pan lined with wax paper.
3. Let sit for 5 minutes as you pre-heat oven.
4. Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes until brown.
5. Let cool and cut in squares.
6. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.

Fun Things for Kids to do in DC | National Zoological Park

Smithsonian National Zoological Park
Lions, and tiger, and bears, oh my! The Smithsonian National Zoo was a great location to meet-up with family before we left Washington, DC on our winter vacation. Unfortunately, Bei Bei, the Giant Panda, wasn't seeing visitors but that didn't keep us from learning some fun facts about her fellow mammals and other zoo mates.

Originally classified as racoons, The Red Panda has been genetically found to exist in its own distinct family of animals. Sharing many of the eating habits of the Giant Panda, the Red Panda is a beautiful and engaging creature.

Also along the Asia Trail, we spotted the Fishing Cat, whose long claws are perfect fishing hooks and is most appropriately dressed in a double coated water-resistant fur.

The National Zoo is a wonderful space for learning and outdoor fun. Connecting the exhibits are several monuments honoring the prehistoric to the amphibians like this statue titled, "Hop To It!"

The Elephant Barn is a must see exhibit at the National Zoo. These highly intelligent animals are fun to watch as they engage in outdoor and indoor pools, trails, and other conservatory spaces.

We wrapped up our tour just in time for ZooLights, the eco friendly illumination of the park powered by Pepco. This free event is a brilliant attraction for the whole family and runs weekends and evenings throughout the winter holiday season. For more information about the National Zoological Park, visit

Instagram Replay

Last minute flight changes put a huge stress on our holiday travel plans. Hubby was literally up all night on the phone with the airlines to secure our reservations. Luckily, our flight to Serbia turned out to be spectacular. The clear skies were fun to see from cloud level and steady winds landed us a whole hour ahead of schedule. Follow our fun travel snaps @drbrigittewhite. Kiddo travel accessories included suitcase by Skip Hop Zoo and Skullcandy headphones.

Fall Outdoor Play

The colder season definitely makes the days feel shorter. With Hubby and I working around the clock, maximizing fun time outdoors with our little guy takes a bit of a strategy. Getting out of the house and enjoying the fresh air and open space is a treat for the whole family and something we should try to do all year round. Luckily, we live within walking distance to an elementary school with an awesome playground.

When he was an infant, we would visit this playground with his bassinet stroller. As he learned how to walk, we played on the baby slide. Now, one of his favorite things to do is climb the rock wall!

The monkeybars, jungle gym, and funky stairs also keep us both entertained!  He's busy reaching for the highest step and Mommy is relieved by the padded groundwork.

Outdoor play is great for running, jumping, and appreciating nature and the loudness that kids enjoy! (That "quiet indoor voices" game gets old quick!)

It's easy to throw on my favorite hooded sweatshirt dress before we head out to the playground. The kangaroo pouch is perfect for a bag of crackers or tissues. I found my J.O. & Co. top in the racks at Marshalls. Click here for a similar look.

...and of course Daddy is always working to improve our soccer technique!

Read more about our football journey in the post Shoot, Goal, Bravo!

Outdoor play is a great way to release energy and definitely beats being stuck inside with the iPad. What's your family's favorite outdoor activity? Let me know so we can add it to our list.

A Tail of Split Ends | Tips for Healthy Hair Care

Swimming competitively for ten years throughout childhood exposed my hair early on to high levels of chlorine and blow drying. Many mornings to save time after practice and before school, I pulled my wet hair back with fasteners, which caused even further damage. Add in the years of chemically relaxing, attempts at highlights and living in a highly mineralized German water system, and my hair has left me with an unraveling tail of split ends.

Although it was tough on my father's wallet, my mother was actually very good about taking me and my three sisters to the hair salon routinely as children. However, after I left home, the busy life of academia, work, and parenting has taken its own toll on my already damaged hair. It's definitely time to make a change and stand up for new growth.

In an effort to try to recover my split ends, I've asked healthy hair styling expert, Michelle-Nichole for some hair care and styling tips. Based in my native Philadelphia, Michelle-Nichole styles clients fabulous in her Bounc'n & Behaving Hair Studio and has worked with celebrities including Chrisette Michele and Teyana Taylor as well as Dom Streater, winner of Project Runway. Her work has also been showcased in countless publications including Vogue Italia and Coiffure Magazine. Follow Michellle-Nichole on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Here are a few hair care tips from the Hair Artist:

Healthy Hair Care
The key is to make sure hair is properly moisturized. When hair is dry it can cause breakage and split ends which can become detrimental to the health of your hair. She recommends the following regimen to maintain a healthy mane:

I'm definitely ready for some hair therapy. I'll put Michelle-Nichole's tips to use and follow-up with you guys soon!  Happy Hair Days!
